POMEGRANATE INSPIRED

The pomegranate trees around here are incredible, not only they are very resistant to the high temperatures in summer and wet windy winters, they have very interesting texture and colors. The leaves are always bright green and the blossoms delicate but very strong beautiful red. There is something magical about the gorgeous red fruit and when they are ripe they literally explode and reveal shiny delicious gems.
There is a depth to this tree, the trunk is flaky and colorful, very textured. I tried to paint pomegranate trees many times, but finally I realized collage would be better technique to use to achieve the layers.
The power of color is fascinating!
POMEGRANATE COLLAGE
This new art piece is a study on texture.  Hundreds of little magazine cut-outs were glued onto the canvas. This collage  is varnished and framed.
